Student CV or Activity Sheet? A Safer UK/Australia Version for University Applications

申請英國/澳洲時,學生 CV 應怎麼寫?先做一份更穩妥的活動與經歷說明表

Many students submit a job-style CV that sounds impressive but gives admissions very little usable context. A safer UK/Australia application version is a short activity sheet built around dates, responsibilities, evidence and honest wording.

Many students submit a job-style CV that sounds impressive but gives admissions very little usable context. A safer UK/Australia application version is a short activity sheet built around dates, responsibilities, evidence and honest wording.

Admissions does not need a corporate resume

For most university applications, the question is not whether you can sound employable. The question is whether the reader can quickly understand your study background, relevant activities and the evidence behind your claims.

That is why a student CV should usually be shorter and more factual than a job-market resume. Titles such as 'visionary leader' or 'strategic marketing expert' add little value if the applicant is still in school.

Use five blocks only

A practical version can be built from five blocks: education, relevant projects/coursework, work or internship exposure, extracurricular/volunteering, and skills/languages. Keep each item dated and easy to verify.

If a section is weak, do not inflate it. A short but accurate section is safer than a long section full of vague claims.

Write each activity in an evidence-first way

For each item, state the organisation or school, your role, the dates, what you actually did, and one or two concrete outputs. Examples include a campaign deck, a school research project, event support work, tutoring, a club role, or a small business task.

If the activity was part of a team, separate your own contribution from the group's final result. This protects credibility and makes later interviews or reference checks much easier.

Match the CV to the course logic

A business applicant may highlight coordination, reporting, sales support or simple analysis. A media applicant may highlight content creation, editing, storytelling or audience research. A psychology or education applicant may focus more on observation, volunteering or safeguarding-related awareness.

The point is not to force every activity into the same template. The point is to help admissions see why your recent experiences support this course choice.

Finish with a quick honesty audit

Before submission, check every line with three questions: can I prove it, can I explain it calmly in an interview, and does the wording still sound accurate if someone reads the original evidence? If the answer is no, rewrite it more conservatively.

A careful student CV will not guarantee admission. It does, however, reduce avoidable doubt and gives the application file a cleaner, more professional structure.
