工程直錄的傳統高中先修要求（對照）
U of A 工程學院（BSc in Engineering）對「直接入讀」（非 Year One）的學生，通常要求5門高中核心科目（Alberta 12年級標準或等效）：English Language Arts 30-1、Chemistry 30、Mathematics 30-1、Mathematics 31（微積分）、Physics 30。
競爭平均分一般落在 mid-to-high 80s（視當年申請池而定），無固定最低線；石油工程、電腦工程等熱門方向競爭更激烈。高考體系常缺少 Calculus 或 Physics 等科目，這正是 Year One 的切入點。
Year One（Engineering Qualifying Year）如何補足
工程方向的 Year One 即 U of A 的 Engineering Qualifying（基礎）年。你不需要在申請時已具備全部5門高中先修課；在這一年內以 U of A 正式學分課程補齊工程所需的數學、物理、化學等基礎。
第一年典型課程包含：Calculus、Introductory University Chemistry、Physics / Engineering Mechanics、Linear Algebra、Computer Programming，以及 ENGG 工程導論與設計，搭配實作 lab 與研討課。完成並達到指定 GPA 後，可進入工程學院特定專業的大二（傳統或 Co-op 路線），無需重新申請。

GPA 門檻與 Co-op 申請（重要）
工程 Co-op 的最低申請 GPA 約為 2.3（cumulative 或 Fall/Winter 兩學期 GPA），但這只是資格線；實際錄取 cut-off 通常更高，熱門專業常落在 2.7–3.0+。官方亦建議在求職簡歷中列出 3.0+ 的 GPA。
Year One / Qualifying Year 學生申請工程專業 placement 時，主要依 Fall + Winter 學期 GPA 排名（Program Admission Factor）。建議目標 GPA 3.0 以上、衝刺 3.3+，以確保進入心儀專業與 Co-op。語言要求一般約 IELTS 6.0（單項不低於5.5），實際門檻、GPA 與先修要求以 U of A 工程學院及 Kaplan 官方最新規定為準。
