在 UCSB Step UPP 國際大一路線中，學生完成 UCSB PaCE 階段後，再透過 Santa Barbara City College（SBCC）銜接 UC 轉學與 TAG 規劃，確實是一條很有吸引力的美國本科路線。
先把 TAG 的承諾讀準：不是所有專業都保證
在 UCSB Step UPP 國際大一路線中，學生完成 UCSB PaCE 階段後，再透過 Santa Barbara City College（SBCC）銜接 UC 轉學與 TAG 規劃，確實是一條很有吸引力的美國本科路線。但家長必須先把 TAG 的承諾讀準：它不是任何學生、任何專業、任何 GPA 都自動進 UCSB。
UCSB Admissions 官方說明，TAG 是給符合特定要求的 California community college students 的 fall term 轉學保證。換句話說，學生必須按時提交 TAG 和 UC application、完成指定學分和課程、維持 GPA、選擇 TAG-eligible major，才有條件取得 guarantee。若提交 TAG 但沒有滿足全部條件，UCSB 錄取就不再保證。
UCSB TAG 主要適用範圍：Letters & Science
UCSB 官方 TAG 頁面目前寫明：UCSB TAG 適用於 College of Letters and Science 的所有專業，但需要 audition 或 portfolio review 的表演藝術專業除外。這也是為什麼 Step UPP / SBCC 家庭在規劃時，通常會先看文理學院內的非排除專業。
比較穩妥的討論方式不是簡單問「UCSB 可不可以 TAG」，而是問「這個學生從 SBCC 轉 UCSB，目標專業在當年 cycle 是否 TAG-eligible」。同一所 UCSB，不同學院與專業的 TAG 結果可以完全不同。
完全無法使用 TAG 的專業排除名單
UCSB 官方列出的非 TAG 專業可分三大類。第一，College of Creative Studies 的所有專業都不適用 TAG。第二，College of Engineering 的所有專業都不適用 TAG，這裡包括 Computer Science。第三，College of Letters & Science 中部分需要 audition 或 portfolio review 的表演藝術方向也不適用 TAG。
目前 UCSB 官方列出的表演藝術排除項包括：Dance B.A.、Dance B.F.A.、Music B.M.、Theater B.A.（Theater Design Emphasis）、Theater B.F.A.（Acting Emphasis）。若學生目標是這些方向，家長應從一開始就按 regular transfer review 規劃，而不是把它包裝成 TAG 保證路線。
Selective Majors：不是只有總 GPA 3.4 就夠
UCSB TAG 的整體 UC-transferable GPA 門檻很重要。UCSB 官方 Fall 2027 頁面寫的是 overall minimum 3.40 GPA；UC 2026-27 TAG Matrix 亦列出 Santa Barbara 需要 3.4 GPA。可是對 selective majors 來說，總 GPA 只是第一層，還要看 major preparation。
UCSB 官方列出的 selective major groups 包括：Biological Sciences、Chemistry & Biochemistry、Economics、Mathematics、Physics、Statistics & Applied Probability。這些專業需要完成指定 major preparation courses，且相關課程要達到 major-prep GPA 要求。具體課程和 GPA 不能只看中文整理，必須進 ASSIST.org 查 SBCC ↔ UCSB 的 By Major articulation agreement。
哪些專業屬於 selective major group
Biological Sciences 方向包括 Aquatic Biology、Biological Sciences、Ecology & Evolution、Molecular & Cellular Biology、Physiology、Zoology 等。Chemistry & Biochemistry 包括 Biochemistry、Chemistry。Economics 包括 Economics B.A. 與 Economics & Accounting B.A.。
Mathematics 方向包括 Applied Mathematics、Financial Mathematics & Statistics、Mathematics。Physics 包括 Physics B.A. 與 B.S.。Statistics & Applied Probability 包括 Actuarial Science、Financial Mathematics & Statistics、Statistics & Data Science 等。這些名稱和要求每年可能調整，正式申請前要以 UCSB Admissions、UC TAG Matrix 和 ASSIST 最新資料為準。
TAG major 必須與 UC 申請第一志願一致
UCSB TAG FAQ 提醒，學生需要把 TAG major 作為 UC application 的 first choice major。UCSB 也說明，changing your major voids your TAG application。這一點對 Step UPP 學生尤其重要，因為很多家庭會在第一年才逐步了解專業難度和轉學限制。
因此，不建議先用一個看似容易的專業提交 TAG，再期待入讀後轉去 Engineering、Computer Science 或其他受限方向。這類操作風險很高，且不應被包裝成穩妥方案。
給 STEP UPP / SBCC 學生的實務建議
若家庭最看重穩定性，通常應優先考慮 College of Letters and Science 內的 TAG-eligible major，並避開工程、Creative Studies、被排除的表演藝術專業，以及自己無法完成 major prep 的 selective major。Psychology、Sociology、History、Environmental Studies 等是否適合，仍要逐項核對當年 ASSIST 與 UCSB 專業要求。
若學生目標是 Engineering 或 Computer Science，請直接把路線定位為 regular transfer，而不是 TAG。這意味著需要更強 GPA、更完整 major preparation、更清楚的 alternate major / alternate campus 策略，以及對競爭強度的心理準備。
總結：TAG 友好，但專業選擇決定風險
UCSB TAG 對從 SBCC 規劃轉學的學生非常有價值，但它的友好建立在條件清楚、專業選擇正確、課程規劃嚴格的前提上。工程、Creative Studies 和特定表演藝術專業不能走 TAG；selective majors 則有額外 major preparation 壓力。
